Marvellous Iheukwumere is from Aba, Abia State, Nigeria.
She relocated to the United States (Austin, TX) in 2001 at age 9 with her parents.
She attended Columbia University (the 4th best university in the US) in New York City, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in May 2014 with high honors and in the top 10% of her class.
During her time at Columbia, she was also a four-year student athlete in track and field, where she captured school and conference records, won multiple championships and finished her career as the Ivy League’s fastest woman and received a special honor as her school’s best scholar-athlete.
While in college, she was invited to try out for Nigeria’s Track and Field team to represent Nigeria at major championships, and hopefully at the Olympics. She placed 5th overall in the 2014 National Nigerian Championships, and she is currently going through rigorous training in Phoenix, Arizona for the Nigerian Olympic Track and Field trials which will be held during mid-July in Nigeria towards making the 2016 Olympic Team.
Though currently resident in the United States of America [USA], Marvellous believes that she should utilize every opportunity and platform through sports and the academia to enact positive change and lasting social impact in Nigeria. She believes in the vision that is Nigeria … building a national ideology for the next generation.
